Replacement Water Pump

We carry an extra water pump. Our 5th wheel docking station does not have a gravity flow hole to fill the water tank so if we need more water when out dry camping we need a way to pump it into it. Also use the extra pump to pump antifreeze when winterizing. When they designed our RV, they put the in house pump just inside the wall of the docking station in a cabinet that also houses the electrical junction box in a shelf above the pump.

Well yes, actually I do carry two generators with me. And my Vector battery charger/jump starter, and a jump box, and emergency tire repair supplies, and four flashlights. An extra 20L of diesel and 5L of gasoline, too.

But I also have a spare water pump. I am bygawd gonna have water to shower and flush the throne with! :W

Seems like I’ve been told by somebody I don’t need any of that. But I’ve used all of it at some time or other. It’s not like that pump is taking up vital beer storage space or something, cause I’ve got plenty of that too.

I like to spend a lot of time in areas that look like this. Long drive to the nearest RV dealer, and I don’t remember ever seeing any fedex or ups trucks out there. Cell service can be a little sketchy, too.

An RV water pump can last for decades. If you want to be prepared for any failure are you also going to carry a spare solar controller, battery charger, extra generator, propane pigtails and regulator, kitchen faucet, toilet parts, and slide motor? The last failure I had that required immediate attention was a broken door lock.

I don't carry much in the way of spare parts. When something breaks, it can usually be replaced by a trip to an RV supply store or waiting a couple of days for general delivery from an online purchase.

Carry an exact replacement for the pump in your coach! If you don't like your
current pump, replace that and carry an exact replacement. You use the example of being "out there" and this is not where you want to be figuring out if you have all the right fittings.

The original pump location in our motorhome was in a cabinet next to the head of the bed. Quite annoying for the sleeping partner when it ran for night time bathroom calls. After tracing the plumbing layout, I was able to relocate the pump to a storage bin with outside access. It's much quieter, but still noticeable enough if it runs unexpectedly. Adding a 2-gallon accumulator tank also minimized how often the pump runs. I do carry a similar spare pump, and the easy access now makes swapping quite simple.

Why do people want a quiet pump??

That noise is the warning that something is not shut off well or you have a leak you need to find.

Having grown up (OK - gotten old) aboard boats on tidal water, the last thing you need is to have the silent pump run and pump all you potable water overboard.

We turn the pump off when underway, but if we are not and I hear that pump run, I go and find out why it ran.

My pump fried when I was camping more than 75 miles from the nearest replacement. It took me 15 minutes to install the spare I had...

We live in a no slide AF 865 & I carry an exact of the factory so that I don’t need more parts or a workaround; got it from Amazon; replaced it once already as the diaphragm was getting dirty… Cleaned it up & now it’s my spare…

I added a small pressure tank, that way the pump does not run as often, put runs longer when it does come on.
I feel this is much better for the pump.
