Only in severe cold, in warm/hot enviroment PWM=MPPT @12v, when ya use higher voltage panels or series them then MPPT is required. pwm is not comparable to mppt with higher voltage panels or series panels.
it's your money, a newer controller may have more features that could be of benefit.
Panels get hot and their max power goes down with mppt.
