Replacing Generac exhaust pipe

I recently lost the exhaust pipe from my Generac generator on my 2005 Hurricane 30Q (Thor/Four winds). I am sure that this has happened to many other RV owners, given the condition of our roads and highways.

Has this happened to you and where did you go to purchase a replacement? Camping World doesn't carry it. Generac claims it did not supply it to Thor Industries with the generator.

The generator exhaust port has an outside diameter of 1 1/4", which means that the inside diameter of the exhaust piper has to be roughly the same. Amazon has one from Camco but the inside diameter is 1 1/2".

I do not know about the spark arrester, The Muffler is supposed to provide that function.

But on My ONAN when the tail pipe.... Oh pipe descriptions

    Generator--Exhaust pipe--Muffler--Tail pipe--Genturi

When the tail pipe rusted out due to poor placement I went to local muffler pipe bender he bent me a replacement.. I came home and was working on the Round Tuit (No job gets done till you get a Round Tuit) but came home Thursday and spotted a workman talkign to a neighbor.. Since his truck contained welding gear.. Instead of clamping the new pipe to the old .. It's welded on. SOLID.
  • The OEM exhaust pipe has a spark arrester built into it. Looks like a cone of screening material in the end. My replacement pipe had the same. A piece of electrical conduit would not come with this and could be dangerous in areas of high grass. Whether or not it is required by law, I have no idea. Manufacturers don't usually add things that cost money if they are not required.

Was going to say, Electrical Conduit. I needed a curved piece and all it took was a conduit elbow from Home Depot.
  • I lost mine years ago and don't remember where I bought a new one.

When I installed the new exhaust pipe I installed a mounting bracket further down the pipe after it straightens out. The pipe has hit things hard enough to bend the new bracket but it is still in place.
  • Just had the same problem. The muffler shops did not have stock that was small enough. Took it to a electrical contractor and he is cutting and bending a pipe of the proper size and then the muffler shop will put it on.
  • Go to a good local exhaust and muffler shop, they can probably take care of it for you. Most have the equipment to take a straight piece of pipe, and form it however needed.
