Can't tell you how to adjust your awning, but have different suggestion. IF you don't want to continue fighting, try the crank conversion. I had one put on my awning and it was worth it, as I don't fight the spring anymore. Not sure who I bought from, but it was someone from Central Florida at the Good Sam Rally in Atlanta.
