To answer your question on whether it cools while travelling we would have to know if the unit is equipped with an inverter and if it is wired to the outlet where the fridge is connected. If so there is no reason you would not run it while travelling. I can't ever remember reading a thread where anyone having a residential in an RV regretted having one. If you dry camp a lot you may have to add some solar capacity. A lot depends on battery bank size, backup generator equipped, intended usage etc etc etc.
