Could you use a vent cover? I installed mine 2 1/2 years ago and used a cover so never dealt with that issue. I know the customer service isn't that great. I called about an issue with the remote control plastic mount not holding the remote tight enough and the woman told me "What? Do you expect it to be perfect? " Ahhh OK
