As long as FE brought up the XPS RIB, would you mind writing a little on the commercial grade tires like the RIB, Bridgestone Duravis R250 and Goodyear G949 RSA? Seems that those of us that use them feel they are the best choice available. Chris
You'll have to ask the tire manufacturers abiut some aspects of this - but my educated guess is that these tires are all steel construction, meaning steel belts (which are used virtually across the board), and steel body plies (it will be listed as "Steel" as the sidewall plies).
Commerical tires are generally constructed for usage in applications where retreadability is important - and is built into the tire. But things like ride quality, noise, and other unimportant properties are sacrificed.
As a whole, I would view those tires as better for durability - durability does NOT mean wear, although these types of tires have wear as an important consideration.
Well, you said earlier that we should share what works in the real world and many posters on this and other forums have had great success with Michelin XPS RIB on up to a 6K axle. There is however a couple that in spite of many mnay positive reports who try to discredit as one of the best solutions, even though they have never used it.
