Does it have anything to do with LT lasting two to three times longer than ST's? I ran my Ribs for 6.5 years/40k+ miles and sold them for two hundred dollars on CL. How does that compare to your tire experiences? You should really reconsider your plan for commercial grade tires! You were on track a month or two ago to put your tire problems behind you! Now that you have found your 16" rims still have life left RIBs or R250's with their steel ply carcasses would serve you well. LT245/75R16E's should fit your axle spacing. With their lower K factor they should handle you load fine!
Maybe CarpriRacer will take the time to address the plus or minus issues of steel carcass tires?

As I recall, you had 5200# axles on that trailer. Any tires rated at 3042# would have been an excellent choice. Lots of reserve load capacity was available.
