I think that most rvers that viewed this post do not really care about all the technical terms and so. I really believe that want to know why there are alot of st tire failures and very few lt tire failures and also they would like to be given a little direction as to what they should buy on their next tire purchase.
What if I had a trailer that weighed equal on all four tires and it weighed in at 12,000 pounds. Would 4 ST tires that were rated at 3450 each be better than if I had 4 LT tires that were rated at 3042 each?
I still believe that LT tires are superior to ST tires.
"So, in the comparison between similar LT and ST tires, testing shows the LT will survive a load of 3042 lbs for two hours, and the ST will survive a load of 3420 lbs for two hours. This test does not predict which tire will survive a 3000 lb load the longest in actual service conditions."
That's from a previous post a few pages back. You can believe what you want. Chinese tires are not the problem. Putting minimal tires on to haul the weight by the RV manufacturers, AND excessive speed by many in the RV community ARE THE PROBLEMS. If you you had a properly spec'd Chinese made tire, properly maintained, you would be good for many miles.
As I have mentioned, there are many, many manufacturers of CHINESE made long haul commercial truck tires (Double coin, Evergreen,-just to name a couple). Check them out at a FLYING J next time you stop! Yes, there are slightly different testing and standards, but to think the manufacturing process goes to heck on an ST tire by some of the these same manufacturers, IS IMHO not real world.
