I think the problem is that instead of making real reports to the appropriate authorities regarding tire "failures", people just post accounts in forums like this one.
Let's face it...anonymous postings are NOT factual information as far as enforcement is concerned.
Very true. When a person is driving and has a blowout on what they are driving, the experience gives them butterflies in the stomach. That feeling gives them the incentive to complain -- they have breached some threshold. But when someone has to pull along side, honk, and point to the trailer tire, that threshold (to go deal with the government) has not been breached. It is still an aggravating experience though, so if they have a handy place to vent . . . especially because their perception of failure rate is tied to amount of service. What I am trying to say here is if they had the tires on the trailer for 7 or 8 years and put 50,000 miles on them they would think to themselves "gee, I guess I got my money's worth out of those tires -- time to get new ones". But instead its "good grief -- this trailer is only 3 years old and I haven't put more than 7 or 8 thousand miles on these tires -- what a bunch of garbage -- I'm going onto rv.net and find out who makes a decent tire".
"Hi my name is Bob (Hi Bob!). I have a 20xx brand yyyy model zzz. Last week we were going to cccc and one of the tires turned to shreds. This thing only has about 7 or 8 thousand miles on it and I always check the tire pressure. What tires should I put on it? I prefer something may in the USA."
Sound familiar?
