I have just ordered a set of Continental 225/70/15 load range D after having a Trail America have a big knot in the tread when we got to the campground last week.Put the spare on and checked around Ocala and could not find tires not made in China. So came home and found another tire with a high place in the tread. So I saw where some one on here had got these tires and they sounded good to me.One they are speed rated at 106 MPH and good for 2470 pounds at 65 PSI.Shipped from Tire Rack to the door for $611.42 for the four.I mount and balance them my self. But if I did`t still would be less than 700 total.
Now a little about the history of the Trail Americas.Have had the trailer for ten months and installed a TPS system from when received.Tires were built in Aug/2010 trailer is 6250 shipped and towed at less than 8000 with a hitch weigh of around 800 pounds.I have never pulled it over 65 and normal tow speed is 60 to 62 on mostly good road and guessing less than 6000 miles on them. Also has never sat for more than three weeks. So yes I say China made Trail America sucks.
Last trailer I installed Kumho 857`s and was real happy with them in the three years I had it but Tire Rack no longer has them in 15 inch rims size and what they do have are now made in China.Every trailer I have ever had but this one I took the China tires off when I got it but this one and this was the first time I have had to change a tire away from home. Two tires on a ten month old trailer tells me china tires are junk. Also everyone we camp with as had blowouts some with a lot of damage one friend had three in one camping trip all China made.I have been told that Good Year is bringing there tires back to the US but they still have China made ones in the system. So maybe they have wised up.I checked Good Year this week and a 225/75/15 D was 188.00 dollars with me taking the rim to him off the trailer. And they were made in China.
So now I will get off my soap box about China made tires. But no one will convince me they are of the same quality as tires from other countries.
