Just back from a month on the road.. lost two 225/75-15 ST Radials.. both 2 1/2 years old.. both on the front axle and both "E" rated with 80 psi in them.. one blew out and was replaces with another "E" radial the other went egg shaped and was replaces with a "C" bias belt (only tire to be had in the Florida Keys when I needed one, it rode 1400 miles home just fine)
I had belt separation on the OE tires ("D" radials) at 2 1/2 years 13K mi and the OE mfr paid for the new "E".. now I have lost two of the "E" radials.. Tire dude in Key West sez that he will not sell radial ST tires because he has a dumpster full of them.. they sit in extreme weather for three months and then are driven 1000 miles to the Keys and the belts separate.. all in the 2 -3 year range..
Any one ever go back to bias belted tires? how do they hold up?
I like the idea stated above about using car tires.. please report back on their life cycle.
As for changing my side sticker placard when I went from "D" to "E" tires..
We don't need no stinking placard.. only the OEM uses that.. my weight is also wrong on my placard..
ST tires are made to run at the PSI on the tire anyway.. "D"s run 65psi "E"s 80psi..
If you run "E"s be sure to use high pressure metal valve stems.. stock wheels have done fine at 80 psi for three years now..
