As this thread gets into the name calling, brand bashing, and personal attacking stage it may be time to reflect on some of the pros & cons of the thread before it gets to the red line and is shutdown.
For those that intently follow tire threads and actively participate in their discussions, this thread has proven to be an outstanding sounding board.
For the majority of viewers/readers this thread is too long and complicated. People with serious tire problems want easy answers and solutions to their problem. This thread is mumbo-jumbo to them. But some will take any advice. Design and brand advice seems to top the list and has a strong influence on the inexperienced posters seeking answers. So be careful when making recommendations without thoroughly researching them.
The only way to change a bureaucratically organized system is to attack its standards. They even provide the tools for us to attack them with. Use them. For the most part their investigations show them that we, the users, are at fault and until factual, documented information, is provided in response to our verbal claims that will be the status quo.
All tire failures have their own set of circumstances. Seldom is there a post that completely describes the event. Example: A poster reported low mileage failure of his OE tires. Then reported that the #$&*^$%^&* no good spare bomb blew up when the weight of the trailer was put on it. Come to find out it had never been used and was 8 years old and had always been exposed to the elements.
There are a lot of experienced posters that highly recommend retreadable, regroveable tires as replacements for OE tires. They are not bullet proof. That is evident with the high failure rate of the only one that is actually OE, the GY G614 tire when it is stressed. Many will say that problem has been fixed. I wonder how. Maybe our experts can tell us how that happened without a major design upgrade in those tires. I haven’t seen any “newer is better” advertisement. Maybe that would be admitting there was/is a problem with the basic design. Again, we need the experts opinion on the steel cased tires and their densely designed treads,
