From what I can tell, the low bidder appears to be tredit tire (http://www.tredittire.com/) in a lot of cases. But what would happen if we pooled our resources and did a hostile takeover? Once we had the company, we could go to a company like Cooper and convince them to go back to making trailer tires for us. Then what would happen? Someone would see the opportunity to underbid us providing cheap inports from China. We would lose our market share and go bankrupt.
The only way to fix the OE problem is to convince the manufacturers to stop putting the junk on there to begin with. I don't think even market pressure would do that. Since 2008, many manufacturers have gone belly up anyway. Who is going to be the first manufacturer to put his price point $400 more than the competition in order to put decent tires on when the only difference the average consumer will understand or care about is the $400?
