I have brand new Maxxis ST's rated at 3420 lbs on my 6k axles, so I'm in line with my axles as well as the OEM sticker. I hope they last a really long time, but when the time comes to replace them I will move to LT245x75R16's, likely Michelin Ribs rated at 3042 lbs regardless of the OEM sticker spelling out 3420 lbs. In my opinion this will be an upgrade. I have drawn my conclusion based on numerous success stories, CapriRacer's explicit statements about the larger safety factors used on LT design versus ST, and Chris's presentation of the different physical weights of the tires.
I respect FE's position & statements. I believe his substantial experience in aeronautics has deeply reinforced the need to always follow written standards & specs. However, I'm concluding that there is an anomaly here that may never get addressed by the various government & industry committees, so I'm going to move to a stronger tire irrespective of the sticker.
Just my opinion, I'm no expert.
