It's likely that percentage-of-reporting for tire failures of all kinds is consistent. One doesn't need every incident to draw statistical conclusions.
I think it peculiar that one would reject hard facts in favor of rumor mills like internet forums. Most people in internet forums don't even understand what constitutes tire "failure". Even if they do it's the rare poster indeed who will admit to being responsible by way of overloading, high speeds, or the most common cause of all tire "failures": underinflation. Much more satisfying to lay the cause down to shoddy goods than personal neglect, especially by taking advantage of such a popularly held myth as the "ST tires are unfit for service".
If folks were looking for anything but sympathy, they'd report incidents to the appropriate authorities as well as complain about them here. But then of course the so-called "failure" would be subject to a kind of scrutiny that might reveal the owner's personal failings- and who wants that?
