Elkhorn98 -- thanks for posting the link to the NHTSA website re: tire complaints. I was not aware of that link.
I am going to try to submit a comment on or before May 13, 2013 (the deadline), to provide notice that there have been more than nine (9) complaints related to ST tires over the past 15 years.
I took a quick peek at Carisle tires, Goodyear tires, and Greenball tires, where there are numerous complaints with ST tires on trailers. It is readily apparent that the NHTSA has a very poor tracking system (and probably outdated) for processing/analyzing consumer complaints. For example, in the March 2013 notice, NHTSA stated that it searched the Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) database for the words "tire" and "trailer," and out of 963 complaints, only nine (9) pertained to trailers. Say what???
At a minimum, a searchable database field for tire types -- "ST" or "LT" or "P" should be possible. Our safety depends upon it!!!
