RH or LH screen door parts

I know this can't be that difficult, can it ?
From the outside, I walk up to my MH door, the hinges are on my right, latch on my left. Is it a RH or LH door ?

From the photos on the ebay site that I just ordered a screen door latch from, I ordered it for a RH door. But when I google "how to tell the difference" all the house diagrams show it to be a LH door.
I sure hope houses are different than RVs. This is what I ordered

  • It seems there is no handing standard on RV doors, if there is any handing at all. Come to find out, it seems there is a standard in the RV industry when it comes to buying door latches, etc etc, that being,.....
when you are inside your RV, if the latch is on your right, you will buy a "RH" latch,...and vice versa. It make no mention of the handing of the door, just that it is a "RH latch". If I were to compare this to a house door, I bought a "RH latch" for a "LH" door, and it is the correct one.
Had I took the time to scroll down on the ebay add, I would have found this clearly explained. Someone said the CW site has the same standard.

Whanever you are facing a door and it opens toward you, if the hinges are on the right, it is right hand.

This makes no sense. (To me, anyway. lol ) There needs to be a standard as to on which side of the door you stand.

Use your method on any door and determine what hand. Now walk thru the door and apply your standard as viewed from the other side.... get opposite answer?

    What am I missing?
  • Update,........
The screen door latch arrived today, ordered for a RH door, it fits perfectly, so its safe to say that an RV entry door, is indeed a RH door.
  • Here is a tip someone told me years ago: Place your back to the hinges. Door open to left-it is a left hand door. To the right it is a right hand door

Now I have been told by a building contractor that the heavy steel entry doors on commercial buildings is exactly opposite hand of a house door.

    Per the fire codes:

Residential doors are required to open IN.

Commercial building doors are required to open OUT.
  • Thanks for all that info,....more than I found. I feel more confident now that I did order the correct RH latch.
As far as PNs, ebay doesn't do PNs, just photos.

I just checked google again, and this same swing door entering a house is a LH door. So I believe it is safe to say an RV door is exactly opposite hand of a house door.

We can get to the moon, but we can't have a standard on the handing of a door ???
  • I have the same latch. Take the old one off and you will find a part number on it. Order by part number
  • Grabbed this off the interweb-"There are four handing terms:
    Right Hand
    Right Hand Reverse
    Left Hand
    Left Hand Reverse
You determine handing by facing the side of the door you'd approach to enter a room, the keyed side of the door or from the outside of a room/building.

With hinges concealed from view on your RIGHT and the door swinging away from you, it is a RIGHT HAND.

With hinges visible and on your RIGHT and the door swinging toward you, it is a RIGHT HAND REVERSE.

With hinges concealed from view on your LEFT and the door swinging away from you, it is a LEFT HAND.

With hinges visible and on your LEFT and the door swinging toward you, it is a LEFT HAND REVERSE."

BTW, I think your golden, Rich. I'm sure most doors are RH and there's no need to label it RH Reverse as that would just confuse a customer.
  • That would be a right hand door.
