Nice clean job!
Just hope the electrical signal is as clean. The pot is connected to the error amp within the PS. This is the most sensitive portion of the PS. Any noise introduced to the input of the amp (from the long pot cable) can be increased by a million from the error amp.
It's a good idea to hook up a scope (perhaps on ac setting) to the output. Any difference in waveform when holding the pot?
I would need to have SCVJeff find the time for me to come back and do a reading on that, as I am almost certain he has the equipment available to measure it in his shop.
BTW, I'd like to share something rather interesting about the LED light that SCVjeff is showing up above. It has a very interesting feature, in that it will run on 9V input voltage and still light up. What that design means is that even if you pretty much killed a cell on your battery, or got it down in voltage pretty low, you'd still have light in your rig coming from that LED. I also believe that Jeff said that the lamp draws 300mA also. Perhaps Jeff will share more details about his plans with the lamps and dimmers in his Motorhome, although he did say he'd come across some design problems in the dimmer, in being in DC and functioning on the negative side of the circuit, the ground side of the 12V system, not the positive side.
I'll let Jeff elaborate on the LED as he sees fit.
