Mex has clarified as above. The issue was the long wire run from panel to controller where high voltage was the way to go, but that meant the controller would need to be expensive.
For a pair of portable 12s and PWM out to say 50ft IMO you don't need to get all complicated. IIRC Mex was talking about much farther out to the panels.
