Roof damage from tree

Ugh. Feel sick to stomach. I went to back in a spot that had clearance two years ago. Now it doesn’t. Tore a handful of holes in the epdm roof. I’m gonna throw some patches on in the morning and call insurance Monday. Anyone had this? Does rv shop replace part of roof, seal it somehow? I had a blowout repair done at a general rv before. Won’t do that again. Any other good places near canton Ohio? I swear I was thinking of selling it this week. :(.

  • Wow I did a number to it. I talked with insurance company and they said go get an estimate. All pro rv said ok to cover areas with duct tape and bring to them on Tuesday. Go from there.
  • While you are up there look closely at everything. Look under the edge of ac unit in case it was jabbed. My rig has a 12x12 patch that wraps over the side edge to the rail and been that way for 18 years.
  • I agree 100%, patch immediately before any moisture can get in. That is where the real damage would come from. I wouldn't be so freaked out by a few tears in your rubber roof. Eternabond would work great for a quick fix.
  • I would suggest taking some pictures before starting the patch job. Maybe call your insurance claims agent and invite them out for inspection and explain the urgency to patch or repair immediately to protect the unit from additional damage from moisture.
  • well im going to patch with eternabond tomorrow. to be honest I may go up tomorrow and not seem as bad. when I was up today cutting branches with my bow saw I was in a rage with myself. theres also a small corner that is bent in. at lease it never got into the fiberglass.
  • in most states insurance will pay for a complete new roof membrane install less your deductible. Policy is to repair to "like new" condition.

I got a slice in my roof from a tree, insurance adjuster took one look, and agreed to have it replaced at the shop I preferred.
  • Can you get the insurance check then tape and caulk it yourself?

Insurance repair is fine but it sure opens up the possibility of having a leak somewhere else....risk reward.
