Roof Sewer and Galley Vents

I need to replace the original roof sewer vents on our 5th wheel. Currently have plastic/pvc vents and they are basically crumbling from sun and or uv exposure. Have any of you went to the metal roof vents vs plastic, they are $2-3.00 more but I'm thinking they will last much longer. Any ideas on why not to use metal ones other than they are not as nice looking, maybe? I think I'm up to the job now but don't want to have to do this again in 5 years or so, don't think I will be able to do it then.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yep, I went with the metal covers......cat food cans painted white and attached to the U shaped mount with rivets. The diameter is perfect, the hold up well, and they look nice too.

  • I use the Ventline V2049-01 for my 3 roof vents. To secure the cap to the flange I used a #6 x 1 inch stainless steel sheet metal screw with a #6 flat cut stainless steel washer under the screw's head. I like this vent a whole lot better than other vent designs.

  • Thre are the Galvanized Metal went pipe covers...they will rust eventually. Camco makes a complete line of UV Stabilized RV Roof Vent covers...mine are nearly 14 yers old...exposed since new to the Southern California sun. Still as new. You can spray paint them with Rustoleum White Plastic Paint every few years if you need extra protection...but not really needed.
