Yes, there are less expensive ammeters, as Mex has pointed out.
I tried an eBay one but had trouble with it (might have been my fault), but there are others. If you need a full range of amps 150-0 accurately, some have calibration "issues."
My point remains that an AGM owner needs an ammeter in his set-up and most RVs don't have one.
