I forgot you folks have to "reserve" campsites. Maybe a year in advance.

We have the north-of-the-border crowd in town till tomorrow. The hovel I am renting makes a good hideout. Slam the patio door and pass into an area with ten foot walls.

I'd take that over the 90+ degree, humid as ****, no breeze weather we've had in NE Oklahoma this weekend.

When I had the Yamaha and diesel was fifteen cents a gallon, none of it mattered. Pull into a small village -- find the town square and park alongside, the water had been preheated -- take a hot shower. If none of the nearby restaurantes proved to be inviting I would backtrack and prepare a fast dinner. While townspeople suffered with 90F or 30F nights, I would play classical music. Dogs bark and horns honked, up goes the volume.
These were the days of 5' 10" hotel single mattresses. They could have 79 or 67 springs. Lay down and COUNT 'EM. Pillows could have had CEMEX printed on them.

I need to find a source where I can purchase a single size 4" memory foam mattress for when my forays take my via toad back to the "Good Old Days". Hundred and Twenty Dollar a night hotels have good beds. I'll save the $100 thank you. And a fast summer escape the heat run with the family costs about three hundred dollars less when using the toad.

The old indian adage about white man's fires still holds true. When hunting or fishing in frigid weather we used to build two small fires and live between them. This was when horsepacking.

Visions of paradise invade vacation dreams. Down jackets, gloves and watch caps ain't part of the program.

30 days ago we had 2' of snow on the ground. Today, it will be 96f.

We have been below the norm of 76 degrees daytime and low 50s at night for a while now, 50s at night and high 60s during the day, a bit chilly for us here this time of the year.

Awoke to 0F in the Mojave desert. But I was inside Quicksilver. Saw many 115F summer days there but again I did not spend hundreds of dollars to stay outdoors for a holiday. There is a time and a place...

The west coast is chilly. Here in my medical Border Hideout I slept under a Thinsulate comforter last night. Only dropped to the low fifties. But I did not travel one mile to vacation in this stuff.

California is a big state, what is considered cold in the Mojave Desert might be considerably different from what is considered cold on top of Mammoth Mountain.
