Rv ac question

Hello, new member here. I have a 2007 keystone raptor 37' toy hauler. My main ac is not working. When I turn it on it draws so much power it nearly shuts my onan 5500 generator off. Had a buddy (electrician) check out power and he was able to determine that main rv is attempting to draw 57 amps on start up. Do I need a whole new unit or would a hard start capacitor help fix the problem. Ac compressor does not stay on after attempting to start at 57 amps.

  • 57 amps should pretty much immediately trip the breaker it's on (presumably 15 amps) and take the load off the generator. I'm wondering, too, if it starts on shore power?
  • I take it doesn't start on shore power either?
  • 57 amps to me indicates a locked compressor. Can it be fixed? Sure, but the cost would probably exceed a new AC.
