Rv ac question

Hello, new member here. I have a 2007 keystone raptor 37' toy hauler. My main ac is not working. When I turn it on it draws so much power it nearly shuts my onan 5500 generator off. Had a buddy (electrician) check out power and he was able to determine that main rv is attempting to draw 57 amps on start up. Do I need a whole new unit or would a hard start capacitor help fix the problem. Ac compressor does not stay on after attempting to start at 57 amps.

57 amps should pretty much immediately trip the breaker it's on (presumably 15 amps) and take the load off the generator. I'm wondering, too, if it starts on shore power?

I take it doesn't start on shore power either?

57 amps to me indicates a locked compressor. Can it be fixed? Sure, but the cost would probably exceed a new AC.
