RV Carport Clearance

I am looking at a metal carport to cover my travel trailer and adjacent concrete patio. Looking at the prices, I can get one, two, or even three feet of clearance over the air conditioner on my trailer. Any real advantage to having over one foot? Lower means cheaper and more stable, of course.
  • :W anytime you ask a how big question on this forum you will always get bigger is better answer predominantly.

My fifth wheel just barely scoots int the barn and that is fine with me.

All I am getting in the future is older. :R
  • 3ft is enough to work? Belly crawl? Keep it low and pull it out to work on it.
  • Mine is about 3' above the top of the RV (not the AC). That is so I can get on top and work without moving the RV. It has come in handy more than once.
  • You want to have at least 3 feet of clearance in the middle so you can work on it when parked.
  • Thanks, Markie. One thing different about mine is that it will be on a rented lot in an RV park here in Texas. I might have to walk away from any investment if I decide not to return here. My point is that the "Build bigger" concept might be a waste of money.
  • Don't forget the raidio antenna if you have one. I noticed the over all height dimension given by manufacturers doesn't usually take that into account.
  • Good points, Charlie. I had not thought about working on top. I do plan to stay mobile, so I can pull it out from under if I have to.
  • Do you ever want to get on top without pulling out from under the cover? Only reason I can think of. Consider length. You will need about 6' longer than existing length to cover properly. Also consider a longer RV in the future.
