I know for those of you Off-grid, how do you orient the rig for the best energy harvest? I know some tilt & some dont.
Thanks
That is an important question. I try to get south before the heavy snow flies and that means the Chihuahuan, Sonora or Mojave Deserts after New Years. But am not always successful. I still enjoy the snow! But I find I will begin tilting my panels by mid November, through mid March. As shown by my spreadsheet tracking, this helps my solar harvesting during the winter months. The results before and after those dates, is not worth the work in tilting and leveling, as I am not in a stationary location, as I still travel during all the months of the year.
I like how almont listed his Solar and Batteries, mine would be;
1.22 kW of Solar
12.3 kW-Hours of AGM & FWC Batteries
A for orientation, in the winter season I prefer to park with the front of my truck facing East, as that allows best tilting and minimal shading.
For summer season, I prefer to park with truck facing north, so the sun travels over the top of the solar arrays, in flat orientation. Also, east, west and south work too, but the shadow of the camper will impact solution collection on back solar array for a short period in morning or evening, depending if oriented east or west.
