Yep someone told us that. Check the discussions on Solar Forum. Son (the firm he owns) just put in the panels and low voltage for a 1.8 megawatt system for power company. The power company handled the higher voltage to the power line.
His work is primarily for businesses and are usually 50 kW and up. There are long runs from panels to battery bank/converter/inverter and higher voltage is desired. So he designed our system to fit his paradigm. Our six x 235 W panels are ganged in two series of 3 each. The LFP battery bank is 48V nominal with 56.7 absorb and 54.6V float. Our six x 235 W panels are ganged in two series of
As smkettner noted "...Morningstar has it for about $1200. 600v in, 48v 60a out for about 3 kW system. You will not be running 12v batteries with a system this size..."
As noted above, our battery bank is 48V nominal, One of the threads here or at IRV2 discussed a 48V DC air conditioner that requires "only" 750 W. This is achievable from most 5th wheel, TT and motor home roofs.
