Quieter is subjective, that's why we use DB rating as a standard. Since the chance it will run a AC unit are slim and most don't cook turkeys in the microwave while camping, I would think the generator would be in ECO mode most of the time. It may not be the quietest while charging but I bet it's quieter than my 3500/4000.

None so far has overall beat Hondas aging design.. Most aren't even very close.

That makes me wonder, because more people want a quiet generator, and if there were patents on the eu2000i, they are going to expire soon.Maybe Honda can come out with a generator the same wattage, a couple dB quieter, able to be paralled with different models and more than two, perhaps with a smart, multi-stage 12 volt charger, as well as a couple high amperage USB ports. The competition isn't there yet, but it is slowly nipping on Red's heels.

i was wondering down the isle in Costco the other day and they had a "red" one on the shelf that advertized a yammy motor.

Sure... Probably upper 70-s to low 80-s if closer than 25ft. Everybody's hearing is different, but upper 70-s is what many consider "annoyingly loud", IIRC.

so it is noticeably quieter 63 vs 68 and cheaper than the champion?

Sure... Probably upper 70-s to low 80-s if closer than 25ft. Everybody's hearing is different, but upper 70-s is what many consider "annoyingly loud", IIRC.

63db for an inverter generator is terrible!

heck, the open-framed Champion non-inverter generator is only 4-5db louder.

a decent inverter generator should have a db rating in the 50's.

I believe Huntindog is right and there are indeed standards for measuring noise level. 49ft? maybe... And with no load... This is what they mean by quoting 55 DB in Honda.

Then you place it right next to your trailer and put some load on, and "55 DB" machine becomes 70-75 DB. If this Ryobi is already 63 DB in specs, I can only imagine how loud it will be next to my rig.

Almost assuredly true if the conversation they use is the one where a husband and wife and there respective attorneys are having a conversation about who gets what in their divorce.

You can measure noise level as close or as far as you like. I doubt that anybody has his generator - in a temporary weekend setting anyway - farther than 15-20ft from trailer.

I think it is 49'

And the Honda 2000 spec is 53 at 1/4 load and 59 at full load.
