Ryobi RYI2200 inverter Gnereator

I know this isn't a common model. I just wanted to see if there are other people out there using this model and if they've had any issue or made any mods.

I bought my first one during a power outage to save the food in our refrigerator. It ran for 2 days straight on just a couple of gallons of gas and saved us hundreds of dollars in food. I figured if I bought a second and paralleled them I could run the camper if we dry/camped or run many of the 110v items in our house during a power outage. We lose power every couple of years to some act of nature. Strange thing is the power can be back on across the street while our side is stuck without power for a couple more days.

I pulled the older one apart today to check out the gas tank. The Honda's gas tank vents through the cap so with a modified cap you can attach a larger gas tank and extend your run time. The RYI2200 has a gas tank than vent through what likes like a charcoal filter. The line is easy to get at through the door for changing the spark plug. So I'm thinking that I could cut the line and attach it to a longer fuel line if I wanted to run longer then just mend the connection for normal use. This should be much cheaper the the BERG caps. All one would need is some fuel hose and a double barb connector, in theory.

What do you think?
  • When the idea mechanically sounds right, I don't have good feeling abut running pressurized gasoline in hose design for venting.
Somehow gasoline spraying from broken hose on hot engine head clicks red flag.
  • As gas draws down in the tank it should create a vacuum to draw gas from the larger reserve tank. There shouldn't be any pressure. The barb fittings will have to be nice and snug.

I don;t think it will work that way since the ryobi doesn;t have a fuel pump like hondas do.
