I'll give this a try. However, I have had to move the antenna around a site to avoid trees, so adding a roof's thickness to the equation may not work.

just so you know..I have a magnetic 'hockey puck' style sat radio antenna. I've placed it in the cabinet above the driver's seat on our class A and it receives just fine in that location.
