I used the antenna on the dash and up under the roof until I took a trip out west. Worked well when headed south but lost the signal when headed north. My receiver is portable and I move it to different vehicles. I went to ebay and purchased http://www.ebay.com/itm/XM-SATELLITE-RADIO-CAR-ANTENNA-HIGH-GAIN-MAGNETIC-BASE-FOR-ALL-RECEIVERS-/190846507685?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6f569aa5#ht_464wt_932 which I fed the cable down through the same hole the coax uses. I epoxed a metal washer to the roof for the magnet on the antenna head to stick. I leave this installed and it works well.
