ScanGuage D - We should buy it?

Hi All,

We have a 2005 Diesel RV. A check engine light has come on and off.

Seems you need a ScanGuage D for this job of CEL analysis.

Do those of you with ScanGuage D knowledge suggest spending the $150+ to buy a ScanGuage D.

??? reasons ???

Thanks in advance
  • I bought one from my gas unit. Has some interesting, but not overly useful readings, but mostly the gauges on the dash of my F53 tell me what I need to know. It did confirm what many on the forum have already expressed in what the optimal speed is for MPG. If I ever get a check engine light, it may come in handy.
  • Yes, well worth the money. It will give you exact readings like temperature so when hill climbing you know if the temp is going up instead of looking at a dumb idiot gauge that doesn't tell you too much until it's too late.

Depending on your MH, it will also give you the transmission temp and the air intake temp. If the intake air is climbing, the engine temp might well climb - this will give you advance warning.

You can have it set to give you four readings on the small screen at the same time. I usually have it set on engine temp, transmission temp, air intake temp and voltage.

  • With a gasser, you can buy an OBD dongle off Amazon for about $15 and use a free app on your phone to read codes. Don't know if it's the same for an oil burner.
  • They are great for getting detailed engine information while driving. Well worth the price.

Also, easy to install-- just plug into the front diagnostic plug.
