Reading this thread gave me a (crazy?) idea: I know nothing about the arrangements as to how larger vendors establish a presence on Amazon, but ... couldn't large sticks and bricks retail suppliers keep certain of their physical stores open that stay profitable enough WHILE AT THE SAME TIME also offer their entire product selection through Amazon? Thus in Sears case - still maintain select physical store presence and at the same time through Amazon provide their "good old catalog services"?
I wonder if Amazon could work this approach into their business model for large retailers? i.e. Us consumers having it both ways - shop in Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Kholes, Bed Bath & Beyond, NAPA Auto Parts, ACE Hardware, (even)Walmart, etc. physical stores if there is one close to us for convenience and/or to get hands-on of a product before buying - or be able to access these stores' identical and entire inventory via the outstanding order handling and distribution system that Amazon has developed? (With item prices being higher if ordered through Amazon versus being purchased at a physical store.)
The above scenario would certainly be PERFECT for us. I wonder why a teamup between Amazon and large physical store retailers can't be worked out for the good of us all - including them. :h
