From your description slide causing voltage to drop excessively, restored surge popped a fuse? On some SL monitors a separate inline fuse is behind unit. The monitor & indicators (buttons) and switch power are separate on mine.
I'm curious as well, but SeeLevel systems overall are very reliable, and in this case, the problem appears to be related to wiring damage between the waste tank sensors and the display. The OP didn't mention the fresh tank level reading, but that could be on a separate wire.
