The reason you connect to the converter output is so you still have lights when the battery is removed.

Thanks for being the first reply. I had not thought about using the DC with the batteries removed. This would in fact require the converter remain in place. The problem is the converter has a charger that I don't want to use. I believe however the charger I plan to build will do just fine.
I plan to 500-600AH of LifePo4 batteries at this time.
