48v is a little better. 120vdc would let you run many AC powered gizmos without an inverter, everything is switchmode these days and the input stage doesn't really care if you feed it AC or DC.
Excellent points and very valid. I considered exactly what you are saying however I am building everything to be replaced on a whim in high stress situations, in particular deep desert camping. If I needed to pull the battery pack and could only replace it with one battery in a pinch, a 12V battery is the most likely scenario when all else fails.
