Replacing failed cells in the "deep desert" is going to be difficult either way. Also no reason you can't wire 4 or 10 12v packs in series if you're set on buying off the shelf.
Good point, I am just assuming off the shelf isn't an option in the Mojave and Death Valley.
I do understand the benefits of 48-volt and I am considering doing that with my solar setup. The right solar controller will still allow me to use 12V batteries.
Now that you guys have reminded me, looking into a way to build a system that can easily swap 48-volt to 12-volt would be wise.
