Well I'll suggest 24V rather than 48V as there's a lot more electrical stuff available, especially in the Marine area, like fuses, inverters, chargers. Prices might be cheaper too. But if price/availability isn't a concern ...
And you would only need 2 regular 12V batteries as an emergency replacement.
