If your controller doesn't have 3 stages, you are both under doing and over doing it.
Stage 1 - voltage is rising from whatever it was in the morning, to 14.3-14.6 (depends on the battery).
Stage 2 - voltage is kept at 14.3-14.6, doesn't have to be all day, in storage it could be less than 30 minutes but it must get there once a day.
Stage 3 - voltage tapers down to 13-something and stays there until sunset. Wet batteries need 13.4-13.7 in this mode.
If there are any loads, having 3 stages becomes more important yet.
In any event, your batteries were kept charged but unlikely were kept charged well.
