We have an OEM WFCO and exclusively boondock. But I invested in solar rather than a new converter. The breaker for the converter is almost always switched off and we get our ac power from an inverter. Only during winter storage when the panels are too snow-covered to work well and the battery voltage drops to low 12's will I plug into land power and let the WFCO work for a couple days. At 13.6V of course.
I have had to fire up our Yamaha 2400 gen occasionally to help with some catch up charging and one time the WFCO actually went into boost 14.4V! I've never been able to replicate it though.
If we ever start doing more than long weekend warrior style camping, I'd probably upgrade the converter so I'd have the piece of mind of being ready for anything. But we're not there. Solar works great for us and I've got the generator/converter "life boat" for emergencies.
