Mike, unfortunately, rv manufacturers have their bottom line to look at. And frankly, their engineers and designers can be real putzes at times. For the most part, many things will go unnoticed by an rv'er... well, that is until one tries boondocking for a few weeks, and then either thinks it's 'normal' or 'to be expected', when they have to run their genset for 10-14hrs a day, for example, or realizes they got screwed. But there are some pretty easy fixes to some very common problems. Your desire to boondock is a case in point. But like a few of the guys here told me, 'buddy, you ain't gettin' off any easier than the rest of us!' lol.
But like many have expressed, learning is cool, as long as it doesn't get too expensive! But like I've said, big amps cost big bucks, and there just aren't very many choices in the 50-60 amp charger range; at least not at the prices we would like to pay. The answer, inevitably? SOLAR! It's coming down in price by leaps and bounds, so if yer not in any hurry, wait it out a bit, but do seriously consider it. I just put out about 5 bills, but it's going to put a huge dent in my need to gen charge.
