Yes, you set a voltage and it stays there until you change it. Good idea to use a timer to shut it off. (Mex often mentions this trick)
I can see a scenario where you have shore power and low batts and need a faster recharge overnight than your 13.6v only converter will do.
You plug in and run on converter and also charge with the BPCM and a four hour timer. While you are asleep, the timer shuts off the BPCM leaving you sitting at 13.6 on converter.
Or the timer could stop the charger after a time doing Equalize, so you don't have to be there to shut it down.
