I read back through the many posts on this thread in an attempt to look at all the specific hardware units that have been suggested. Below is a list (I may have missed some) and my reasoning regarding their appropriateness, or lack thereof, to my situation. Keep in mind I do a lot of boondocking so have only generator power about 50% of the time. Someone asked how long I go out for. My wife and I are leaving in about 3 weeks for a 4 month trip plus minus, the longest we have ever done. This also means I do not have a lot of time to solve this converter/charger issue. Please also keep in mind my limited understanding of electricity - about all I understand is that it's a mass of electrons speeding down wires (at the speed of light??).
Righty or wrongly, my criteria are: up to 14.8 volts for charging, 15.5 volts for equalizing, 50 amps or more.
1&2. The Megawatt and Black and Decker chargers that have been suggested - only 38 and 40 amps, which I question if that's adequate.
3&4. PD 9260 and 4600: Don't meet either the 14.8 or 15.5 volt criteria.
5. Iota DLS-55/IQ4: Meets the 14.8 volt requirement but doesn't go above that for equalizing.
6. Meanwell RSP-750-15: Might work because it specifies a voltage range of 13.5 to 16.5. However I could not find any info on the different modes (if any) on their website.
7. Xantrex Truecharge 2: Recommended by Trojan, meets all criteria, but it's very costly. Xantrex claims the fan does not run constantly, which would be a large issue if it did. If I can't find a free standing charger that meets the output criteria I will apparently have to go with this converter/charger despite the cost.
Regarding the suggestions for solar, I wish I could do that but, since we are picking up the TT out of state in 3 weeks and leaving for 4 months directly from there, it is logistically impossible at this time, as well as difficult financially. Hopefully we can do this at some future time.
Are there any I missed or any other units that anyone can suggest for consideration? As someone stated, why isn't there a 50 - 75 or so amp stand alone manual charger available with these sorts of voltage outputs. I can't find one either.
Thanks again to everyone.
Mike
You missed this WITH the optional adjustable voltage NOT the regular version (Randy's version is similar but high voltage is 15.5)
