An Ammeter is great to see the diminishing number of amps it requires to hold a charging battery at absorption voltages.
I think you should still seek out a charger in the 60 amp range to accomplish as much as you can in shorter times on the generator.
What you save with -400 megawatt will be eaten up in gas money to power that generator for longer, and if you do not power it for longer, your batteries will need replacing that much sooner when boondocking is the primary mode of battery depletion.
Since solar is out for the mean time, maxing out the recharge current while the generator is running should be the goal, and a charging source that was not designed to be safe and lawyer approved( read intentionally underchargers) is the goal.
I think the powermax adjustable voltage unit is still the best bang for the buck for performance for you. The thermistor issues seem to be solved with the recent batches.
There is a very satisfying feeling at being able to twist a dial and change the Absorption voltage. The Megawatt or MeanWell, unmodified, requires you have a jeweler's screwdriver and a fine touch to adjust the tiny trim pot to the desired voltage.
The finger dial voltage adjuster of the powermax is worth its weight in gold, especially for your intended usage.
Don't let your frugality now, cost you significantly more in the long run.
