Best I can tell, that Powerlab 6 charger is a DC-DC converter, designed for hobbyists, for charging small batteries from a 12v battery. Its output is 1000w/40a max, when supplied with over 30v input, but only 408w when supplied with 12v, which is what the 47a psu's output is. So, it is not required. All that is required is the 47a AC-DC psu, but it it is fixed at 12v, so useless for charging 12v batteries.
Or am I missing something?
You are missing something. You can charge at any voltage you want by adjusting the voltage per cell. 6v, 12v, 24v Lead
Acid batteries (Flooded, Gel, AGM, SLA) Output battery charge current:
Adjustable range 10mA to 40A, limited by 40A input
current* It can be set to end at CC CV. It can be set to remain charging for a set time for CV or CC or CCCV. Plus numerous other termination settings.
This is probably not the best route to go for boondock charging, but it works very well for Equalizing, or anti sulfation when you wnat to be able start it and walk away knowing it will terminate at the exact time, current or voltage setting you choose.
