I plan to make it so it can go off grid with solar. My wife is entering Med School this fall so we will most likely move a bit and there could be situations where we go off the grid for a year or two. If I was to be primarily off grid why would you recommend 30 over 50? I appreciate the input.
Built in generator would probably be hard wired anyway. Portable generator should be fine on 30 amp supply.
If you are off-grid you will be in near constant conservation mode even with fairly large solar. Plenty of other stuff like large water holding tanks etc. to play into this.
Just some random thoughts....
Nothing wrong with going 50 amp for the extra breaker slots.
