In a recent post the OP has declared that his home-built 28-foot trailer will have a resale value of $50,000. IMO, this is impossible, and the OP should do a hard reassessment of this project before he gets too far into it.
Based on the basic nature of the questions he is asking, it is unlikely that the trailer he is designing will appeal to anyone but himself. Not a problem as long as he is occupying it, but he should expect little or no resale value at end-of use.
Additionally, private RV parks that have a "ten-year rule" also prohibit any home-built RV, no matter what it looks like. The OP must factor this into his choice of campgrounds.
The question was asked previously: What is the expected weight of this trailer (and the tongue weight), and what does he expect to tow it with?
Thanks for the feedback. I want to clarify a few things. I am not building this for an investment and understand that is very niche. That being said I think it will have value. I call it homemade but I bought a professionally built trailer and built the floor myself. Then had a professional insulate the floor with spray foam and I am having a contractor build the shell. I would say it is more compareable to a house project than an RV. I do not plan to move it often.
It is estimated at 15,000lbs with stuff in it according to the plans. I can't remember the tongue weight. Depending on the final results, I plan to use a 3/4 Duramax at a minimal. If it is heavier than expected I will bring in a 1 ton dually.
Have you heard of Tiny Homes on Wheels before? It is a definite movement with the younger generation. I think you would be surprised with the market out there.
