Should I swap GC2s out for Lifeline AGM?

Planning to swap out my 2 year old GC2 batteries (Interstate brand) for 2 six volt AGM Lifelines (220 Amp Hour bank). I dry camp several times a year for a few days and want to extend my electrical capacity. I don’t have solar panels but will break up the dry camping with nights in a campground to recharge, and also run the generator a little.
I got great service out of a Lifeline AGM bank in a previous rig.

My rig is equipped with a “smart” charging system.

Do you think it is worth $1,000 to make this upgrade?

Thanks

  • Unless one of your two year old wet cell batteries is bad, or unless you're just tired of maintaining water levels in them, I see no benefit at this time to replace them with AGMs, which will merely provide similar capacity. Also, $1000. for two Lifeline GPL-4CT AGM batteries of similar capacity as the GC2 wet cell size is outrageous. They can be had for ~ $325- 350. each at many places.

    No. A thousand times no.

Just get two more 6s and go series/parallel.
  • A grand for two batteries? Aren't they around 300 each? Yeah, AGMs are always worth it to stop watering and corrosion and gassing.
