Signal Lights

This is for my utility trailer. The old rear brake/signal lights were giving me grief and I put in two new ones. Everything works except when the headlights are on the right signal will not blink. The left is fine. The right blinks if the headlights are off or the brakes are applied (with the headlights off). I've repaired the ground wire (which solved other issues) and made sure the new right light is properly in contact with the trailer frame to ensure ground.

Any ideas?

  • Thanks for the replies. I'll try some more things tomorrow and report back.
Another odd thing, I was using the utility trailer today and while it was hooked up I found that if I removed the keys from the ignition and still had my foot on the brake the TV would beep (as if I had left my headlights on).

Still sounds like a grounding issue.

It does. Maybe jump something from the frame of the trailer to the TV like maybe a jumper cable and make sure you have a connection and see what happens.
  • I would try at your connector on the vehicle to make sure that everything is working they way it should there. If it is, go to splice between exist trailer wire and new tail lights, to see if it is working correctly. I once got some magnetic lights for cars on a tow dolly, and both lights were wired backwards.
